Rooted in the Bush.
Driven by Passion.
A family-owned escape in the heart of Dinokeng’s Big 5 Reserve.
Our Story
Katekile Escapes was founded by Eric and Lolly Mathieson with a simple vision — to create a private bush retreat where guests could experience the magic of Dinokeng in comfort.
In 2019, the couple invested their savings into what would become their first bush home in Hunters Pride, less than an hour from OR Tambo International Airport. Captivated by the quiet beauty of the reserve and the privilege of living among Africa’s iconic wildlife, they set out to share that experience with others.
Today, Katekile Escapes offers two exclusive-use homes designed for space, privacy, and connection. Modern finishes, en-suite bedrooms, generous living areas, and private pools allow guests to return from the wild to comfort and calm.
The name Katekile means “Blessed” in Sepedi — a reflection of how Eric and Lolly feel about being custodians of this special place. Even the porcupine, a quiet and sacred animal in Tswana culture, makes regular appearances on the property — a subtle reminder of the reserve’s untamed charm.
Staying at Katekile Escapes is more than accommodation. It is a chance to slow down, reconnect, and experience the bush with people who genuinely care about your stay.
